Invisalign® is a type of braces for adults and teens that uses removable, clear aligners. The doctors at Dental Access develop a treatment plan that includes about 24 custom-fitted sets of aligners that fit tightly over your teeth. You receive specific instructions on when to switch out your aligners, although the average time is every one to two weeks. A typical course of treatment with Invisalign lasts 12-18 months.*
One of the major benefits of this aligner system is that you can remove them to eat, drink, and clean your teeth. Of course, for many people, the fact that they’re almost invisible is a major plus, too. In fact, most people won’t know you’re wearing braces unless you tell them.
Invisalign® can fix overcrowding, crooked teeth, and gapped teeth as well as several kinds of bite issues, such as overbite, underbite, open bite, and crossbite.
According to recent clinical studies published in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, low-level light therapy can be used to shorten the treatment period for Invisalign. In the studies, patients were given a small low-level light appliance that fit into their mouths to use at home for five minutes per day per arch.
Instead of switching out aligners every two weeks, many patients were able to change them in less than a week each time.* Although this is a relatively new innovation, low-level light therapy demonstrates the ability to promote bone and connective tissue remodeling.
Invisalign® is well suited for adults and teens. Younger patients whose teeth are still growing may not be good candidates for the treatment since the aligners are customized for a tight fit. Dental Access makes a recommendation on the best type of braces for patients after meeting with them, learning about their goals, and doing a thorough dental examination.
For best results, the doctors at Dental Access recommend wearing your Invisalign® aligners for 20-22 hours per day. You may remove them to eat, drink, and clean your teeth. After brushing and flossing your teeth at night, simply put the aligners back in your mouth before going to sleep.
